Geranium BenefitsEvery year my dad grows geraniums, along with the many other beautiful plants that make the yard of a master gardener beautiful. I never really thought about the medicinal benefits of geranium until recently.

It started with the realization that several health issues I was dealing with were connected to high estrogen levels. This led me to the goal to figure out how to balance my hormones. Along with adjusting how I eat (more veggies, less animal product and no refined sugars) I learned that ylang ylang and geranium were two essential oils that would help with this process. Once I began using the blend, I fell in love with both the smell of it and the benefits.

I loved this blend so much that eventually I began adding it to some of my products.

There are many benefits of geranium. Let’s touch on a few of these and why they are important.

Balances Hormones

Hormones affect women in every stage of life. When we are out of balance we are more likely to be moody and hard to get along with. But that is not where it stops. Health problems like endometriosis and fibroids are associated with high amounts of estrogen. On the other hand, low amounts of estrogen have been blamed for hot flashes as you enter menopause. Finding ways to help your hormones and emotions stay in balance will help you be a happier and healthier woman.

Promotes Healthy Skin

One of the great things geranium does for your skin is to balance the production of sebum. This means that whether you have dry or oily skin, or a combination, geranium will give your skin the exact support it needs. In addition to that, because geranium is anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, antiseptic and microbial, it can help to control bacteria and other germs that may cause infections or inflammation,  think acne outbreaks, eczema and other rashes. You wouldn’t think the oil for acne would also offer benefits for wrinkles, but it does. Geranium helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles by tightening the skin.

It is impossible to list all the wonderful properties of geranium, but here are a few more: relieves stress and reduces depression and anxiety, works as a natural deodorant, improves kidney health, boosts the immune system and promotes quick recovery when sick, helps digestion, effects endorphins that reduce pain, lowers blood pressure and enhances circulation.
